We have all heard of distracted driving but did you know that distracted walking is also a real problem? With our busy lives our phones are pretty much our life lines. Many of us like to believe we are multi-taskers and think that walking while looking down at your phone is okay (I am also guilty of this). However, next time you want to send a text while walking you should think twice. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s reported that 1,152 pedestrians were treated in emergency rooms after being injured while using a cellphone or some other electronic device in 2010, and the number had doubled since the year before. Just like drivers, pedestrians also experience reduced situation awareness, distracted attention and unsafe behavior when talking or texting on mobile phones.
Check out these videos of people that came very close to injuring themselves while texting and driving.
On a lighter note…these people launched an army of “Seeing Eye People” in New York , a funny way to make a serious point.
